ONEIDA LIFE SUSTENANCE COMMUNITY CENTER STREETSCAPE
ONEIDA, WISCONSIN
The Life Sustenance Community Center (LSCC) is an effort by Oneida Nation toward stewardship and connecting with their local ecosystem. The design aims at developing a blended, constructed human infrastructure with programming to serve as a model for sustainable development within the local and regional framework.
The community center and its surroundings are designed to serve as a centralized hub for the Upper Oneida Nation that will accommodate flexible programming to showcase the area’s history and culture through careful material application. With an integrated infrastructure-programming approach, the project will act as an extension of the natural environment and serve as a model for 21st century developments. The space will be an extension of the existing forest, providing buffers from nearby traffic and other sources of noise, while also serving as a continuance of the ecological functions of the forest. By utilizing local materials such as sustainably harvested timber from the Menominee Forest and integrating nearby circulation networks like the Duck Creek trail, the project aims to emphasize and enhance local identity to draw local and regional visitors and foster relationships within the region.
